The island is located in the Lake District or 10° region in the beginning of the Patagonia, it also welcomes you with a very traditional and special cuisine that includes the very typical curanto and a very special and delicious milcaos.

Another historical landmark in this island are their catholic churches built completely out of Wood that they were declared world patrimony by the UNESCO in 2000. Also you can find the traditional palafitos or stilt houses occupied by the traditional fisherman´s of this place.

This island was also the starting point for the expedition that in 1843 took possession of the Magellan strait in the name of a very young country of the time called Chile, we´ll talk about this issue in a next blog.
