Angelmo, a place that you must to visit!!!!

In previous blogs we talked about places that you have to visit in diferent cities, today we´ll talk about one of this places but in puerto Montt.

Puerto Montt is located aproximetly 600 miles due south (1000 kilometers) from Santiago and is very easy to get here, you could arrive by bus or plane, it´s imperative to pass by this place if you´re going to travel arround the lake región or to ake an scale to continue to Patagonia as we talk in several of our previous blogs.

In Pathandgo Experience, we always wants to give you the best tips to prepare your trip, that´s why we´re goin to tell you a little bit about the history behind the trditional vegetables and seafood market of ANGELMO, crucial stop for the people who wants to visit the Lake district or for the people who goes to Patagonia only but he wants to make a little break during the trip to the south Patagonia where the handcrafts take an important ´art of it (this market has about 100 shops called ‘’puestos’’) where you can find Lapiz Stone (we´re goin to talk about this precious Stone later in another blog) Wood crafts, leather and wool, besides you have app 30 food places called ‘’cocinerias’’ where you can taste diferent kinds of traditional plates based in fish and seafood (you have to remember that Chile has approximately 2500 miles of coast line).

There are 2 versions of the name ‘’ANGELMO’’, the first one it´s because in the begining of the 1800´s there was a doctor called Angel Montt who was very well known in the área and the locals has a very special pronunciation so when somebody ask about a doctoe in the área they said that you have to go to Dr. ‘’Angel Mot´´.

The other versión is a tranlation from the huillivhe native language of the Word ´´Antukulenmo’’ what means ‘’THE PLACE TO DRY SEAFOOD’’

The history of this place begins at the end of the 1800´s when the fishermans from the islands near Angelmo start arrving here to sell their products to the people that arrives to the region. In the 1920´s Angelmo becomes to be one of the principal ports for the economical activities for the diferent cities that makes the Patagonia.

It´s a natural port very well protected by the Tenglo Island against the weather conditions creating a small chanel that´s why Angelmo becomes a privilege zone for the small merchants who brings their products to Puerto Montt to sell them. Besides  is the reaso to become the main port to freight the grain produced in the province of Osorno.
